Two of the top games in Illinois this weekend won't take place in Illinois this weekend.

The 2009 football season begins in earnest this weekend and there are a number of great games to kickoff the campaign. What follows is a list of five good ones to keep your eyes on, in no particular order:

Carmel at Joliet Catholic Friday

The top two teams from the East Suburban Catholic Conference, both playoff teams, get started against each other Friday night. Carmel came out on top 24-12 last season, although Joliet Catholic won the league title.

East St. Louis vs. Elder in Cincinnati Saturday

Elder is ranked fourth nationally by USA Today, and East St. Louis is ranked 10th. The game is part of a four-game schedule at the annual Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown held at the University of Cincinnati.

Crystal Lake Central vs. Cary Grove Friday

The Fox Valley Conference, Valley Division title went to Cary-Grove. The Fox Division title went to Huntley, but Crystal Lake Central went to the playoffs. Forecasters say this is the game between the best teams in each division.

Immaculate Conception vs. Bishop Ready in Indianapolis Saturday.

Immaculate Conception won the 2A title last year, their second title this decade. Their reward is to go to Indianapolis to play Bishop Ready High School Saturday in an intriguing interstate contest.

Hinsdale Central at Wheaton-Warrenville South Friday

WWS went 8-0 to start the 2008 season, the lost the last two games by a point each in defensive battles. This season they start with a candidate for the No. 1 team in the state, then follow that with a game at Maine South, which just happened to win the Class 8A title last year.
