GameTracker: The biggest upcoming games

The gridiron gets back to center stage with some big district games on tap, as well as the Rio Rancho Jamboree, a top cross country meet that will serve as a preview of state.

Thursday’s Top Games

Boys Soccer

La Cueva at Rio Rancho

The Bears may have lost last week, but this will be a new challenge against a formidable opponent is a match that will have serious seeding implications. 5:30 p.m.

Friday's Top Games

Football

Clovis at Artesia

If the Wildcats are for real, this time to show it. They have yet to win a big game on the road. The Bulldogs mystique has taken something of a hit recently, but they can restore it witha big victory. 7 p.m.

Oñate vs. Las Cruces

This is the Knights' chance to show they are for real. The Bulldawgs, however, have been rolling through a four-game win streak. It should be an interesting clash between the wannabes and the haves. 7 p.m. Field of Dreams.

Albuquerque Academy at Bloomfield

The Chargers are still undefeated but still for respect. The Bobcats have won three in a row in district play and are tough on their own turf. This is a long road trip for the Chargers. 7 p.m.

Tularosa at Capitan

Two of the top 2A teams begin district play. The winner will have a leg up in the district chase, but also will take a huge step toward the playoffs.

Robertson at Socorro

The Cardinals have been playing better and the Warriors are tough, especially at home. Again, this is another contest with serious seeding implications. 7 p.m.

Saturday's Top Games

Football

Raton at Pojoaque Valley

Still top-ranked, the Tigers will face an unexpectedly tough game from the resurgent Elks. 1:30 p.m.

Cross Country

Rio Rancho Jamboree

This is a whopper with 63 schools and 1,630 athletes entered in a meet that will be the site of this year's state championshps. The big schools boys go off at 9:30 a.m. and the big schools girls at 10:30. Rio Rancho High School.

Volleyball

Las Cruces at Mayfield

Two of the premier programs in the state battle for District 3-5A supremacy in this clash of titans. The winner likely will be in line for one of the top seeds come state tournament time. 7 p.m.

Wednesday's Top Games

Girls Soccer

Volcano Vista at St. Pius

The upstart Hawks wrested the district title away from the four-time defending state champions. Now the Sartans want some revenge. 4:30 p.m.
