Another big week for high school sports made it tough to decide who to put on this week’s Hot List. With so many 100-yard rushers and receivers as well as big passing days, CoachesAid.com really looked for performances that stood out.
Anne Gillig, junior, J.L. Mann: The Patriots may have not won the AAA swimming title, but Gillig certainly shined Saturday at Clemson. The junior set a state record in the 200-yard individual medley and was on a relay team that set a new mark in the 400 freestyle. She added victories in the 100 backstroke and the 200-medley relay.
Lauryl Williams, sophomore, Dorman: Williams set a state record in the 100-yard breaststroke in the AAAA finals and added a victory in the 50 freestyle. She also was part of a record setting 200-yard relay team and added a fourth gold with the 200-yard medley.
Shaq Roland, sophomore, Lexington: The quarterback ran for five touchdowns in his school’s 41-33 victory over Orangeburg-Wilkinson. Roland already has an offer from USC.
DeEdward Burris, junior, Gaffney: Threw for 250 yards and three scores and ran for 126 yards and two more touchdowns Friday night.
Larenzo Hammonds, senior, North Augusta: Hammonds completed 23 of 27 passes for 260 yards and three touchdowns while adding 79 yards on the ground in a losing effort to Irmo Friday.
Josh Sanga, junior, Chapin: The Eagles have been one of the biggest surprises of 2009, and a major part has been Sanga. He ran for 150 yards and four touchdowns in a 44-21 victory over A.C. Flora.
Corey Rawls, senior, South Pointe. Has looked impressive so far this year after replacing Stephen Gilmore, but really stepped it up last Friday when he threw for 293 yards and four scores in a 55-0 thrashing of Lancaster.
Jatavius Stewart, senior, Rock Hill: It’s not just that Stewart had six touchdowns Ridge View It’s how he got them. Two came on catches (88 yards and four catches total), two came on the ground (43 yards and four carries total), one came on a pass (six yards) and the final came on a 30-yard fumble recovery.
Seth Truesdale, sophomore, Chesterfield: The Golden Rams’ young quarterback threw for 298 yards and five touchdowns all before the half Lewisville
Joe Keitt, junior, Ridge View: Won the Ridge View Sandhills cross country meet with a blistering 16:26. That comes a week after he set his personal record with a 16.12 at the Wendy’s Invitational.
