Week 7 Football Rankings

Coachesaid ranks teams in all eight classes

By Kent McDill

When ranked teams play each other, one ranked team loses.

The new Coachesaid rankings are out, and many of the changes occurred as a result of a ranked team playing a better-ranked team, or at least a ranked team that played better Friday or Saturday night.

Also, Coachesaid has joined others in ranking East St. Louis in Class 7A, since the Flyers asked to be allowed into the 7A playoff picture this season.

After seven weeks, here is a description of the changes that were made in the Coachesaid rankings from last week’s action:

Class 8A

Bolingbrook’s convincing win over Lincoln-Way East altered the rankings near the top, although Maine South stayed No. 1 overall. Fremd moved into the No. 2 spot and all other teams moved up a spot. Lincoln-Way East was reinstalled at No. 7. Belleville East dropped from eighth to ninth after its loss to East St. Louis, and Stevenson was moved into the No. 10 spot.

Class 7A

St. Rita lost to Providence Catholic, and Glenbard West moved into the No. 1 spot, just ahead of the Flyers of East St. Louis, who are new to the Class 7A rankings. No. 4 Geneva lost to Rochelle, and No. 7 Glenbrook North dropped a game to Highland Park and was removed from the top 10.

Class 6A

This class lost its No. 1 team when East St. Louis moved out. Cary-Grove moves into the No. 1 spot, and all the following teams moved up a spot except No. 10 Peoria Richwoods, which lost to Quincy Notre Dame. The new team this week is Marmion Academy.

Class 5A

Fifth-ranked St. Francis lost to Marian Catholic, and the bottom two teams, Nazareth Academy and MacArthur both lost. The new teams in are Triad and Marion Catholic.

Class 4A

Second-ranked Bloomington Central Catholic lost to Mahomet-Seymour, while No. 7 Geneseo and No. 9 Bishop McNamara lost as well. New teams added to the list are Richmond-Burton and Breese Mater Dei.

Class 3A

Fifth-ranked Unity lost to West Prairie big, 28-12, and No. 6 Pittsfield lost to No. 2 Illini West. The new 3A list has the same teams in different orders from last week.

Class 2A

Casey-Westfield continues to own the Class 2A rankings, but No. 3 and former No. 1 Bureau Valley lost to No. 2 Morrison 42-14. The fifth, sixth and seventh teams – Orion, Stark County and Maroa-Forsyth – all lost, so there is a shift at the bottom. Maroa-Forsyth was dropped from the list while Gibson City was added at No. 10.

Class 1A

Third-ranked Triopia lost to Brown County and had its 20-game win streak snapped. Sixth-ranked Cerro-Gordo fell to Tri-County, 37-0, and Tenth-ranked Alexis United lost to Mercer County 42-27. New to the list is Princeville, which defeated Stark County.
