Only 25 days remain in the 2009 regular season. The next four games could be the deciding factor on a team's chance for a playoff spot. Here is how the top teams faired from last week and their current rankings going into Week 9.

Notes: Madison Central continued to prove why they are ranked No. 14 national by USA Today with their 49-0 win over Warren Central. The Meridian TIgers fall to No. 4 in our rankings with their 28-21 loss to arch-rival Oak Grove in Hattiesburg. The Oak Grove win and Brandon win makes a four-way tie atop Region 3-6A. The Bulldogs take the tenth spot with an impressive 49-0 win over Natchez, who beat the Oak Grove Warriors last week.

Notes: There is no question who is the top team in 5A football. The undefeated Mustangs added another win on Thursday night 38-13 over Forest Hill. Hernando moves from No. 8 to No. 3 this week as they improve to 7-1 on their season with a 7-6 win over Clarksdale. Moss Point had another impressive win Friday night as they shutout the newly added West Harrison team 37-0. Pearl lost a heart-breaker to Ridgeland 35-28 to fall out of the rankings for the first time this season.

Notes: With three undefeated teams and six one-loss teams the 4A class is shaping into one of the most competitive in the state. Shannon hosted North Pontotoc Friday night and continued their dominance with a 26-14 win. Itawamba AHS may not be No. 1 but they have played like it this season outscoring their opponents 239-81. The Indians rolled over New Albany 34-7 Thursday night.

Notes: Class 3A still leads the state with six undefeated teams. The Morton Panthers continued their dominance with a 41-0 win over Carthage. On the season, the Panthers have outscored their opponents 363-64. Dandy Dozen running back Nick Griffin and the Bulldogs of Perry Central racked up 54 points in their win over West Marion Friday night. Forest falls to No. 8 this week as they receive their first loss (21-19) of the season against Jackson Prep.

The second-ranked Indians have dominated teams defensively this season allowing only 6.5 points per game. With five teams still undefeated, several schools have the opportunity to make their run for a state title in December.

Notes: Another Friday night of 1A football and another impressive win for the Seminoles who sit atop our rankings for the third straight week. The Seminoles knocked off Thrasher 47-2 to remain the only undefeated team in Class A football. Nanih Waiya moves to No. 3 with their 25-18 victory over Weir. With the loss the Lions fall to the No. 5 spot. With the Shaw and Biggersville losses, French Camp and West Oktibbeha move into our rankings this week.
