The latest Coaches Aid rankings are out, and changes abound.
Two-time defending Class A state champ Bonny Eagle dropped from fifth to seventh after a tough 14-0 loss to No. 4 Windham. It marked the second time in three weeks the Scots (4-2) fell short.
Elsewhere in Class A, Lawrence and Bangor retained the top two spots. Both are 6-0 and both will meet Friday at Cameron Stadium in Bangor.
“It should be fun,” Bangor coach Mark Hackett said. “We know the championship goes through them.”
Lawrence edged Lewiston (4-2), which slipped to ninth.
South Portland (4-2) came up with its second big win of the season – this one over Deering – to make its debut in the Coaches Aid poll. The Red Riots, who have won three straight, are No. 10.
Leavitt running back Josh Strickland leads a Leavitt team that is ranked No. 2 in the Class B poll.
In Class B, Mountain Valley, Leavitt and Cape Elizabeth improved to 6-0 and kept their spots in the top three.
The Capers turned back No. 9 Wells 40-0. Mountain Valley knocked Greely from the poll with a 21-0 win.
“Wells is a good football team, and we knew it would be a good test,” Cape coach Aaron Filieo said. “Of course, Mountain Valley is doing its thing.”
As is Leavitt. The Hornets knocked off Morse 35-0. The Shipbuilders (4-2) dropped to No. 6 in the poll.
In Class C, two new teams cracked the top 10 this week. Mattanawcook Academy (4-2) is ranked No. 8 while Old Orchard Beach (4-2) slipped into the No. 10 spot.
Maine Central Institute and Winthrop dropped out.
