Boys Sectional Golf roundup and results

State Golf Sectionals completed

The scores were lower and the stakes were higher in Boys sectional play Monday at 15 sites around the state of Illinois.

In three classes, individuals and teams advanced to the state finals to be held this weekend at three sites in the Bloomington-Normal area.

In Class 3A, two-time defending state champion St. Viator advanced, tying New Trier in the Northbrook Sectional. Dan Stringfellow led St. Viator with a round of 71.

Other Class 3A medallists were Mike Fitzgerald of Homewood-Flossmoor (73), Peter Marshall of Lake Forest (70), Brian Bullington of Lincoln-Way East (69) and Thomas O’Bryan of Waubonsie Valley with a 71.

IN Class 2A, defending champion won the Lincoln sectional by seven strokes over Mahomet-Seymour. Logan Stauffer led Normal with a 69. Other medalists in Class 2A were Conor McCormick of Yorkville (72), Mitchell Homb of Dixon (70), George Tate of Springfield (71) and David Flynn of Wheaton Academy (69), the defending state champion.

There will be a new team champion in Class 1A as St. Thomas More finished third at the Bismarck regional behind Effingham St. Anthony and Salt Fork. The top individual golfers in Class 1A were Peter Callas of Rock Island Alleman (72), Brady Welsh of Robinson (70), David Keenan of Salt Fork (70), Jered Hogan of Roxana (74) and Steve Embry of Peotone (72).
